The celebration of the fourth United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation was held as a General Assembly event on Wednesday, 19 December 2007, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Conference Room 1 at United Nations Headquarters. The purpose of the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation, which was designated by the General Assembly in its resolution 58/220 of 23 December 2003, is to focus the attention and action of the public, policy-makers, analysts and development practitioners on South-South approaches to human development. The event will be presided over by the President of the General Assembly High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation.
ThemeYear 2007 paid particular attention on the mobilization of resources for development through the theme, Innovative Financing for South-South Development Cooperation. By focusing on the various channels or mechanisms available to finance South-South development, whether through multilateral funds or through the process of building inclusive partnerships, the event is intended to provide the international community with the opportunity to explore and strengthen this aspect of South-South approaches to development. The theme will be explored in depth through the statements made by high-level officials, the keynote speech and the thematic panel discussion.
