The Regional Coordinator for the Special Unit for South-South Cooperation in Africa is based in Johannesburg at the Regional Service Centre, under the direction of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa. It has been tasked with developing programmes and initiatives targeting the African countries, which make up the largest percentage of those lagging in economic growth and human development. Since 2005, the Regional Coordinator has been involved in three main programmes: (a) Improving Market Access for African Products in Asia; (b) Helping the African Union to Develop Strategic Partnerships with Emerging Southern Countries; and (c) Building the Capacities of Africa’s Subregional Economic Institutions.
